Improving Charity Walks through Collaboration

I'd like to plan a charity walk to benefit Pure Water for the World. I'm sixteen years old (not sure if that will make a difference).

I have a website that I'll fundraise through (people will be sponsored) and am comfortable with handling publicity and sponsors, etc. However, I have NO idea how to get started with the whole legal part. Does there need to be an ambulance or something there? What sorts of forms will people have to sign, and how can I get them? How about insurance? Is it okay to do this on school property?

Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Hi Hannah,
Good for you! If you want to do it on school property, you'll probably need an adviser from the school. I am optimistic that you can get one though with your good cause. Ask a teacher you like to work with, as a starting point. They can point you in the right direction even if they're not able to be the adviser themself. The adviser can help you figure out how to get a route on school property and also what's needed to cover first aide. If it's a school event, it will probably be covered by their insurance so they'll have a waiver form that is appropriate.

If you decide not to have it at school, if you're involved in a religious organization, an adult may also be able to help.

Roger Carr, who runs this Ning, and I market an e-book all about organizing walkathons, called "The Walkathon Guide". It would help you get through all the steps to get organized. Click on the link to the far right if you are interested.

I hope you are proud of yourself, doing this!
