Improving Charity Walks through Collaboration

Hello-

We are looking at registration software for our Walk.  Please let me know who you are using and what you think of them.  Also, who to stay away from.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,
Can you supply a little more information that would be helpful in making some recommendations? How many walkers do you expect? What are your fundraising goals? What features are you looking for? Do you want the software to support online fundraising? Do you want the software to support teams? Is the software supporting 1 walk or many? If you can provide details, it would help a lot.
Our Walk this year will have over a 1,000 participants. As you know, most of the programs include individual and team sign up. We just need event software, no ongoing development/fund raising components.

We have contacted the most of the well known groups, just want to see who everyone else is using.

Thanks,

STeve
Most of my experience over the past few years has been with Kintera. It certainly has been very capable software in support of charity walks. I won't list other major software since you have already contacted many of them. One that you may not have heard about is DoJiggy Pledge. I have found the software to be very easy and quick to use. Click on the DoJiggy logo on the lower, right section of this webpage to learn about the software and get a free trial to test it out for your purposes.
Roger-

Thanks for the reply. Kintera is now Sphere (they were purchased by another company and renamed it).

Steve
Thanks for the correction. Kintera Sphere is now Blackbaud Sphere. I still refer to it as Kintera because the people I work around still refer to it as "Kintera software" and the websites the software creates still uses a kintera.com url.
Hi Steve,

Well, I have recently switched from Etapestry to Convio but while I was searching for entirely new software I learned a couple of things.

These places are willing to sell to you the use of their team fundraising programs, with the ability to run reports. Donor Perfect is one and their program is Donor Pages. You also have First Giving and Active.com. You may have already tried these out but just in case.

At this point in time I think companies just want the business so everything is negotiable.

Lynn
Lynn,
Thanks for sharing your software experiences as well as the reminder that this can be a good time to negotiate.
Hi Steve,
When I was with American Heart Assoc. we used Kintera (Blackbaud). It did the job but I found it not user friendly for reports, changing the home page, little flexibility with where to position sponsor logos.
I am starting a new walk and am seriously looking at DoJiggy, it seems to do everything I need it to and is very flexibible and affordable.
Which ones are at the top of your list?
Greg
We are going with a company called GiftTool (Canada). We used them last year and they do not have all the options that DonorDrive, Sphere (Kintera) or Artez has but it will satisfy our needs this year.

We will be switching next year because of the sophistication of the programs.

Thanks for everyone's comments.

Steve
Steve,
I hope everything works out for you and the charity walk is a tremendous success. Thanks for asking the question. It will help others as well.
Greg,
What you have described matches my experience with the Blackbaud software as well. It is very capable but could be more intuitive in the areas of reports and email campaigns. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Here is a good article by Stella Hernandez at IdealWare, called "A Few Good Tools for Online Distributed Fundraising".

It should also mention DonorPages. (a sponsor of mine).

I personally didn't use an online tool for my smaller, kid-oriented event. However I would next time. For example this kid raised $150K for Haiti single-handedly because his donation page caught on and one person forwarded his story to the next.
