Improving Charity Walks through Collaboration

Hello-

We are looking at registration software for our Walk.  Please let me know who you are using and what you think of them.  Also, who to stay away from.

Thanks,

Steve

Lee,
Thanks for providing the link to the article. FYI, a few months ago I wrote a 25 page paper on selecting software for a charity walk. I used Relay for Life as an example. It was for a Management Information Systems course. I need to start capturing the info from the paper into something others can use...
Roger,

I'd love learn about what you discovered in your paper

Matt
Roger,
That would be a great tool for people!

Thanks for the mention, Lee! And I encourage everyone to visit walkathonguide.com for great tips about thon-based fundraising.

And certainly feel free to contact me regarding DonorPages. It's a great, affordable program, very flexible, and effective.
Steve,

I manage a site called BEEx.org. BEEx is a place where anyone can raise money for their favorite causes by creating challenges or personal pledges. Our software syncs up nicely with charity walk's because they are themselves a pledge. BEEx's basic functions are all free to use and can easily power your walk. Our free services include: walker registration, personal fundraising pages, donation buttons, and promotional tools. We also provide other premium services that I can discuss with you. If you are interested in saving your organization money this year then shoot me a message.
Matthew,
I was hoping you would chime in.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I work for Convio, a vendor in the charity walk space. Our product most applicable to this discussion is called TeamRaiser. I'll warn you now, the next few sentences will sound "salesy" simply because I'm describing what TeamRaiser does and the success it has had.

TeamRaiser is a product similar to BlackBaud Sphere, or more specifically their Friends Asking Friends tool. TeamRaiser allows organizations to create run-walk-ride type event registrations and empowers both team and individual fundraising efforts. Essentially, regular people come and learn about the event, choose from multiple registration types (configured by the organization) and then uses the personal fundraising tools to help drive support for the organization.

We believe our tools are better because they really focus on making it easy for the participant to make the transition to a participant fundraiser. We make it easy for the organization to coach their participants through the fundraising process, and we make is easy for the participant to how they are progressing against their goal, identify next steps, and inspire other with their personal story.

The results have proven us right. TeamRaiser powers more of the top 30 events than any other vendor, according to the Run Walk Ride Fundraising Council, an organization that reports on event fundraising every year. Events using Friends Asking Friends have been stagnant or declining.

OK, I'm off of my sales soapbox now. I'd be happy to tell you more about TeamRaiser and what it can do. We have a lot of clients using it, clients of all sizes. One client to check out is The Hill Country Ride for AIDS. They are a relatively small event, but have used TeamRaiser to great success.
Hello everybody please accept my similar apology for being salesy...

My name is Mark Davis, and as a Blackbaud employee (through the Kintera acquisition) I have personally worked with 100's of our event customers to help them succeed with online fundraising using our technology. To clear up a few items discussed, following the Kintera acquisition, Blackbaud now calls our event fundraising solution Blackbaud Sphere® Events™. This solution features Friends Asking Friends® and has successfully helped over 33,000 events of all shapes and sizes collectively raise over $1 billion online. Most of these events have found great success using email as the primary solicitation tool, but recently we have seen organizations find additional success adopting social media tools to help them succeed. As such, Blackbaud launched the Social Media Toolkit last year to help organizations use Facebook, Twitter and YouTube (at no additional cost) make their event participants successful multi-channel online fundraisers. Read a recent press release as to how our very first customer, the San Diego Arthritis Foundation Jingle Bell Run/Walk increased their event total revenue by 40% this year mainly due to the social media tools (http://www.blackbaud.com/default.aspx?pgpId=2531&PRID=328)

In case you are in the neighborhood, come watch me present with one of my favorite customers, the American Heart Association, on the benefits of integrating Social Media for online event fundraising at this year’s Run Walk Ride conference in Dallas on March 3 (check out www.blackbaud.com/rwr). Additionally, we have been busy help organizations understand the benefits of using Friends Asking Friends to help with raising more money through Independent Fundraising Events. I have been speaking about this topic for quite some time, and recently published a white paper on this topic found at: http://www.blackbaud.com/IFE.

If you want to understand more about our solutions, please feel free to visit our standard product page on our website at: http://www.blackbaud.com/products/internet/sphere-events.aspx. Also, you can freely watched 5 recorded sessions about best practices on online event fundraising at www.blackbaud.com/knowhow.

Thanks
Mark
